Massage therapy may help the body in many ways. Massage can relax muscle tissue, which may lead to decreased nerve compression, increased joint space, and range of motion. This may lead to reduced pain and improved function.
The lymph system is the body's natural defense against toxins and impurities. Massage Therapy stimulates the flow of toxic waste from the muscles, organs and tissues for improved health and digestion.
Massage Therapy is to the human body what a tune up is to a car. It helps to reduce heart rate, lowers blood pressure and strengthens immunity by boosting lymphocytes.
Massage therapy consists primarily of hands-on manipulation of the soft tissues of the body, specifically, the muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments and joints for the purpose of optimizing health.

Massage therapy treatment has a therapeutic effect on the body and optimizes health and well-being by acting on the muscular, nervous and circulatory systems. Physical function can be developed, maintained and improved; and physical dysfunction and pain and the effects of stress can be relieved or prevented through the use of Massage Therapy.

Modern massage techniques can be traced back to the 1700s and the development of Swedish massage, the first systematic method of therapeutic massage based on physiology. Today’s Massage Therapists use their knowledge of anatomy and physiology to combine traditional Swedish and modern Massage Therapy techniques with exercise and other therapies to treat their clients.

Massage therapy is a proven, non invasive way to reduce chronic stress levels in the body. Dozens of studies have shown the effectiveness of massage therapy in reducing stress and millions of people avail themselves to the services of massage therapists to treat stress. Using massage to reduce stress is natural and safe and unlike some forms of alternative therapies, massage therapy is a proven discipline within the medical community with scientific evidence supporting the use of massage for stress management. Massage therapy has proven to be extremely effective in the workplace environment.
Stress is your body’s way of responding to a physical or emotional demand. Everyone experiences increased stress levels at one time or another. In fact, the body’s ability to react to stressful situations and deal with threats is critical to our survival. However, when one is under long term stress caused by ongoing situations such as work or family problems, financial concerns, etc. the body will be in a constant heighten state – a state which has harmful effects on many bodily systems including the immune system, cardiovascular system, endocrine system, reproductive system, etc.
The answer to this question is unequivocally yes – massage therapy does reduce stress levels. Massage releases endorphins that calm the peripheral nervous system. Massage has been identified as a valid medical method to reduce stress and pain. It is also safe to say, massage can reduce anxiety in the depressed, anorexic, and can reduce anxiety in the workplace. There are endless possibilities.

The Swedish relaxation massage techniques vary from light to vigorous. Swedish relaxation massage uses five styles of strokes. The five basic strokes are effleurage (sliding or gliding), petrissage (kneading), tapotement (rhythmic tapping), friction (cross fiber or with the fibers) and vibration/shaking. Swedish relaxation massage has shown to be helpful in reducing pain, joint stiffness, and improving function in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee.
Swedish massage is also commonly referred to as "classic or relaxation massage"
Clinical studies [ref.1 ref.2] report that Swedish Massage can effectively reduce low back pain and the effectiveness can last for as long as 15 weeks. One study reported that Swedish Massage caused reduction in salivary cortisol indicating its role in management of stress and improvement in mood.

Deep tissue massage therapy is similar to Swedish massage. It is a type of massage therapy that focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles. It is used for chronic aches and pain and contracted areas such as a stiff neck and upper back, low back pain, leg muscle tightness, and sore shoulders.
Sports massage uses techniques that are similar to Swedish and deep tissue, but are specially adapted to deal with the effects of athletic performance on the body and the needs of athletes regarding training, performing, and recovery from injury.
Neuromuscular massage is a form of deep massage that is applied to individual muscles. It is used primarily to release trigger points (intense knots of muscle tension that refer pain to other parts of the body), and also to increase blood flow. It is often used to reduce pain. Trigger point massage and myotherapy are similar forms.
Introducing massage as part of staff wellness programs is a smart way for employers to balance health with working life - and there are benefits for both employee as well as employer. “Employers" see increased productivity when they offer massage in the workplace to relieve muscle tension, lower stress and anxiety, alleviate pain and stiffness and reduce inflammation in joint and soft tissue.
A 1996 study evaluated the effectiveness of an on-site chair massage therapy program in reducing anxiety levels of employees. Significant reductions in anxiety levels were found for the massage group.

Hi, Marley Jorgensen here.
I guess now that you are on my about me page, you are thinking about booking me in for a massage......Great!
Born and bred in The Yarra Valley of Victoria, I have always been passionate about the outdoors focusing on health, fitness and wellbeing.
What you can expect is a tailored massage that will focus on any problem areas that you've got, ensure you are relaxed and certain in the knowledge that you are in good hands.
I'm trained in Swedish Massage with a Certificate IV in Massage Therapy Practice with the Melbourne Institute of Massage Therapy (MIMT), I also have a Diploma in Health Sciences from La Trobe University and am about to start Myotherapy with The Southern School Of Natural Therapies. I am registered with AAMT and have personal and public liability insurance.
The reason mobile massage appeals to me most is that I feel it is important for clients to come away from a massage totally relaxed and able to be comfortable and at ease immediately without having to travel back home through busy traffic. Instead I leave them in a blissful state of rest.
I absolutely love leaving a clients home knowing that they feel significantly better than when I first arrived, with a vastly improved sense of physical and emotional wellbeing. I enjoy the fact that I can bring the benefits of therapeutic massage to you with the care and convenience that a busy life demands.
I specialize in soft and deep tissue massage, trigger point therapy, myofacial release, sports and corporate massage and can tailor a massage that features a bit of everything or purely focuses on one modality.
*My services are strictly non-sexual"
